IDENTEC Acquires Wtek, Enters Worker Safety Market
Dallas-based IDENTEC Solutions, a manufacturer of wireless tracking and tracing devices, reported Thursday that it has completed its acquisition of Norwegian firm Wtek, a producer of RFID-enabled safety equipment for the oil, gas and mining industries. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. IDENTEC noted that, with the acquisition of Wtek, it has gained a foothold in the growing market of worker safety and security. Devices equipped with active radio frequency identification, IDENTEC explained, can help reduce emergency response and deployment time in instances of life-threatening accidents. Wtek is headquartered in Kristiansand, Norway. IDENTEC Solutions is a privately held company. Its international headquarters are located in Lustenau, Austria, and its U.S. operations are based in Dallas.
