Challenge Online Games Raises $4.5M
Challenge Online Games, a publisher of Web-based entertainment software, announced Thursday that it has raised an initial round of venture financing worth $4.5 million from Sequoia Capital. Additionally, the Austin, Texas-based software developer said it has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with MLB Advanced Media LP, Major League Baseball's interactive media and Internet company. Challenge Online explained that the Series A financing and the MLB licensing deal will fund the expansion of its short-form, browser-based games. One such title, called Baseball Boss, officially debuted Thursday. Challenge Online said the game allows players to collect and trade virtual baseball cards, which can then be used to build teams and challenge other collectors to fantasy baseball matches.
