Google Chops Austin Offices
Mountain View-based Google said late Wednesday that the firm is cutting its Austin, Texas offices, along with other related cuts in the firm's Norway and Sweden engineering organizations, and a steep cut in the firm's number of recruiters. Google said the moves--which are due to the state of the economy--affected around 70 engineers across all of the three engineering offices. Specific number of engineers affected by the move in Austin was not disclosed. Google said it had a "strong desire is to keep as many" of those employees at Google as possible--however, that will require those employees moving out of Austin. Separately, the firm said it is cutting around 100 recruiters from the firm, as it throttles back its hiring plans for the company.
