Gowalla Confirms Facebook Buy; Service to Shutdown
Austin-based Gowalla confirmed its acquisition by Facebook on Monday, saying that the firm, indeed, will become part of Facebook. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. In a blog post, Josh Williams, one of the founders of Gowalla, said that Gowalla will wind down the service at the end of January, and that Facebook will not be acquiring any user data from Gowalla. In addition, Williams said that both he and co-founder Scott Raymond will both be heading to California to join Facebook. It's unclear what that means for the rest of Gowalla's staff and operations in Austin.
