Dell Taps Former CA CEO To Head Software Efforts
Round Rock-based Dell said it is ramping up a new software group at the firm, with efforts to provide Dell-owned, intellectual property in the software space, and has appointed a new President of its Software Group today. The firm said that it has named John Swainson, who was previously a financier at private equity firm Silver Lake, to the position. Swainson also has served as CEO of software firm CA, in addition to serving at IBM. Dell said the move will provide a "more competitive position" to deliver solutions to its customers. The move looks to be potentially significant for Dell--which has both hardware and services arms--but has not had any major effort in providing its own software to customers.
