OnRamp Trumpets Austin Location During Hurricane Season
An Austin-based data center provider, OnRamp Access, is trumpeting its Austin location as the region heads into hurricane season. OnRamp said that it has a safe, "geographically stable" data center location in Austin, which are not subject to some of the issues faced by its competitors in the Houston area after Hurricane Ike. OnRamp said it is "far removed from the threat of natural disasters, has a low seismic risk and zero incidents of hurricanes". Houston holds a major concentration of data center operators, which cater to the area's oil and gas industry, but has had the unfortunate history of getting the brunt of hurricanes in the region; it looks like OnRamp is hoping to convince a few of those firms to look a bit to the East for their hosting needs.
