Silicon Labs Aims New Chip At Chinese Smart Meters
Austin-based semiconductor maker Silicon Labs has its eyes on the Chinese smart meter market, saying Wednesday that it has launched a wireless transceiver specifically for smart meter usage in that country. Silicon Labs said its Si4438 EZRadioPRO IC is specifically designed to provide wireless connectivity for n-home energy management systems and other smart grid infrastructure applications, including long range back-haul communications to utilities. The new chips are specifically designed around the 470-510 MHz band in China, which has been dedicated to smart meters in the country.
