Google Confirms Austin Fiber Plans
It's official: Austin is the next city to get Google Fiber, the high speed, optical fiber effort from the Internet giant. Google confirmed this morning that it wlil start connecting homes in Austin by mid-104, providing both gigabit Internet and TV service across the city. So far, Google has only been operating its high speed access in Kansas City. Google called Austin "a mecca for creativity and entrepreneurialism" and says it will offer both very high speed access, as well as a free 5mbps connection to customers if they pay for a one-time, construction fee.
