Rent-A-Center Starts Smartphone Rental Rollout

Plano-based Rent-A-Center, the provider of furniture and electronics rentals, has started a big rollout of its smartphone rentals across the nation, announcing the availability of phones in dozens of cities nationwide this morning. The company--which had announced plans to offer up a selection of Samsung Galaxy smartphone earlier this month--said the new offering is aimed at cash- and credit-strapped consumers put off by the high upfront cost of acquiring a smartphone. The company said those no-contract phones can be used with a variety of carriers.
