HID Global Powers Mobile Smartphone Access At Netflix
Austin-based identification card and access systems provider HID Global--best known for those ubiquitous white access cards given to employees to open doors--reports that its products are being used in a pilot at Netflix. HID Global said, working with RFI Communications & Security Systems, its systems have been used to pilot a way for Netflix employees to open doors using their Samsung and Apple smartphones. The companies did not say if Netflix intends to roll out the system any further than a pilot, which apparently is the second at Netflix. The firms said that Netflix had tried an earlier, NFC-based system from HID Global back in 2012, before the company added Bluetooth ability to its door locks.
