RetailMeNot, Mary Kay Tussle Over Online Coupons

Austin-based RetailMeNot and cosmetics brand Mary Kay are in a legal tussle over the coupon site's use of Mary Kay's name on is website. Cosmetics maker Mary Kay--which is also based in Texas, in Addison--sued RetailMeNot in March, seeking to prevent RetailMeNot from using its name on its website. In response, RetailMeNot said Thursday that the lawsuit is an "attack on the rights of Americans" to freely exchange public information. RetailMenot said the issue is one of free speech, and posted its response on the web on Thursday. RetailMeNot lets users share coupons, deals, sales, and other information with each other, in many cases driving more traffic to those retailers, but also meaning that more users are using coupons for discounts on purchases.
