Embarcadero Rolls Out Free, C++ Compiler

Austin-based software developer Embarcadero Technologies has rolled out a free, C++ compiler for Windows, which it says is aimed at both students and professional programmers. The free C++ compiler is actually the latest incarnation of the Borland C++ compiler, one of the earliest C++ compilers developed for MS-DOS--first released in the 1990s, and is the foundation for Embarcadero's C++Builder products, which are used for cross-platform software development across Windows, OSX, iOS, and Android. Embarcadero bought all of Borland's software tools in 2008, when it purchased Borland's CodeGear division; Embaracdero itself was recently acquired by Austin's IDERA.
