Report: Seniors, Others Being Scammed On Match.com, Other Dating Websites

A new report, from the Wall Street Journal, says that users--in particular, senior citizens--are being scammed/a> out of substantial amounts of money on Match.com, PlentyOfFish and other dating websites. Dallas-based Match also owns Tinder, OkCupid, PlentyOfFish, Meetic, Twoo, OurTime and FriendScout24, some of the biggest online and mobile dating services. The WSJ article says the scams use fake photos and profiles to gain a user's trust, particularly those of senior citizens, before requesting money for an "emergency" or other similar situation. Match.com and the company's other websites all post prominent safety tips on how to avoid scammers. Although scams are not new to online dating -- it even has its own term, catfishing, which inspired the MTV series Catfish.
