AT&T, Qualcomm Eye Wireless Drone Communications Network
Dallas-based AT&T, and wireless equipment maker Qualcomm announced this morning that the two companies have linked up in a partnership, which will research how the two can use AT&T's 4G, LTE network for drone communications and control. According to the two companies, they will start researching how cellular networks can support future, wide scale deployment of drones, and will start measuring coverage, signal, strength and mobility across network cells. The two said the efforts will go to support the ability of drones to fly well beyond an operator's visual range. Financial details of the collaboration were not announced. The two said they will start drone testing in San Diego, California, later this month.
