Certain Affinity Scores $10M Investment From Hong Kong
Austin-based independent video game developer Certain Affinity has raised a round of funding from Hong Kong-based gaming company Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited, the two said this morning. The companies said Leyou will invest $10M in exchange for a 20 percent ownership stake in Certain Affinity. In addition, Leyou said it will provide an interest-free, non-recourse loan of up to $15M to pay for costs and expenses for developing an original came based on licensed intellectual property from Leyou. According to the two, Certain Affinity will continue to operate independently, expanding operations with its new headquarters and new game initiatives. As part of the investment deal, Leyou also gains an option to buy the entirety of Certain Affinity in 2021, for a valuation based on an agreed formula, not to exceed US$150M. Certain Affinity has developed such titles as the Call of Duty and Halo franchises, DOOM, and Left 4 Dead.
