Amazon's Jeff Bezos Starts Installing 10,000 Year Clock In West Texas
Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, has started installation of a 10,00 year clock--an all mechanical clock powered by the thermal cycling of the earth--has just begun, showing off a vide of workers installing parts of the clock deep into a mountain not far from Van Horn, Texas. The clock--which ticks just once a year--is designed to use energy captured by changes in temperature between day and night, so that it never requires winding, and conceivably could keep on ticking for 10,000 years or more, without any human intervention. Bezos has reportedly invested $42M in the project.
