Fossil Piles On Tech Gadgetry In Latest Smartwatch

Richardson, Texas-based watch maker Fossil is ramping up its "smartwatch" efforts in the latest iteration of its "Fossil Q" watches, saying today that it has added heart rate tracking, "untethered" GPS, NFC payment, and other features. Fossil, which has been using technology to make its watches more relevant to a generation of users who tend to use their smartphones more than watches, said the latest updates connect its watches as a heart rate monitor for Google Fit; NFC support via Google Pay; and a new "untethered" GPS which lets users track runs, hikes, bike rides, and more via Google Fit without having to carry a smartphone along during those activities.
