Spiceworks Takes Cues From Facebook, Twitter In IT Software

Austin-based Spiceworks, which develops IT management tools, has thrown an interesting twist into the firm's software, saying today that it has added new social networking features into its software. The firm said it has added features that are similar to Facebook newfeeds, and a Twitter-like messaging system for users, which will allow users to track changes to the hardware and software in their networks. Among the new features are the ability to see changes to hardware and software--similar to tracking status updates on social networks like Facebook--and micro messaging which allows IT administrators to share information with other users using Spiceworks, much like the popular Twitter micro messaging service. Spiceworks is venture backed by Austin Ventures and Shasta Ventures.
