id Software Acquired By ZeniMax Media

Mesquite, Texas-based id Software, maker of the popular DOOM, Quake, and other first person shooter games, has been acquired by a Maryland firm. According to ZeniMax Media, which is the parent firm of Bethesda Softworks, it has acquired id Software, and will publish id's titles and other upcoming releases from the firm. ZeniMax said that id Software will continue to operate as a studio under direction of founder John Carmack, and no changes will be made to operations in development of its games.
