The Planet Offers Free Servers To Entrepreneurs
Houston-based The Planet has rolled out a new program to spur entrepreneurship, saying that it will offer free servers for individuals and entrepreneurs for one year, as part of an effort to help spur the creation of new companies. According to The Planet, it will offer a Dell server with Dual Xeon processors, 146GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, and 10Mb per second unmetered bandwidth running CentOS 5 to individual developers and entrepreneurs looking to develop new applications and products, for free. The firm said it hopes to create jobs and fight unemployment with the deal, which will be offered through its "Sand Castle" program. The Planet said that the servers are only available to individuals, and it will provide a single server to 500 people as part of the new program. As part of the program, The Planet said that individuals must create a new domain within six months of acceptance into the firm's program. Users can apply online at the firm's site.
