Spiceworks Takes Clues From Social Networks In Release

Austin-based Spiceworks, the developer of IT management software, said today it is taking a clue from the social networking world, and has added a new "People View" feature to its product. The firm said the new People View feature allows IT administrators to see what equipment, activities, and other information is associated with people in companies. Spiceworks said the new feature will allow administrators to track the computers and cloud-based services associated with each person in their company. The new feature can be linked to employee directories through support for Microsoft's Active Directory, and also allows IT managers the ability to reset employee passwords with a one-click password reset. The firm said the feature was driven by the popularity of similar features from social networking and consumer applications. Spiceworks is backed by from Institutional Venture Partners, Austin Ventures and Shasta Ventures.
