Amazon Finally Catches Up With ShopSavvy, Rolls iPhone Barcode Scanner

Amazon.com has finally caught up with Dallas-based Big In Japan, maker of the popular mobile barcode scanning and comparison shopping software ShopSavvy, releasing an barcode-capable iPhone application this week. Amazon's latest version of its iPhone app now allows users to scan barcodes from products, bringing up Amazon pricing and allowing users to purchase products directly from the app. Amazon has been playing catch-up to ShopSavvy, which has provided its iPhone application since last November; Amazon has had bar code support in its Android version August of last year. Big In Japan's ShopSavvy allows users to scan any product's barcode, and bring up pricing from multiple online stores for comparison shopping.
