SunPower Corp., a Silicon Valley manufacturer of solar cells, panels, and systems, said last night that it is setting up shop in Austin. According to SunPower, it will create a major new corporate operations center in the city, which it expects will create 450 new jobs over the next four years. As part of the move, SunPower said it has received $2.5M from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) and a $900,000 grant from the City of Austin. SunPower said it expects to create 115 jobs in the location in 2011. SunPower said it expects the new Austin office to be one of its top three U.S. office locations, housing marketing, legal, and finance functions. SunPower has 900 employees in the U.S., and approximately 5,500 worldwide.
