Dell Buys Compellant

Round Rock-based Dell said this morning that it has reached a deal to acquire Compellant, in a deal worth approximately $820M net of cash. According to Dell, it will pay $27.75 per share in cash for Compellant, or approximately $960M in total equity value a maker of storage products. Compellant is based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Dell said it will continue to maintain operations in the location. Compellant makes virtualized storage systems which include such features as storage tiering and thin provisioning, sold to the enterprise and cloud market.
