AT&T Drops Fees For Japanese Calls After Earthquake, Tsunami

Dallas-based AT&T said today that it will not charge U.S. residential wireless and wireline customers with calls to loved ones in Japan, following the earthquake and tsunami Friday. AT&T said that, beginning last week, March 11th, and continuing through March 31st, it will not charge wireless customers for international long distance from the United States and Puerto Rico to Japan, or for text messages from Japan, originated from a U.S. wireless number. The firm said that wireline customers can get credit for up to 60 minutes of direct dial calling to Japan. In addition to the free calls, AT&T also said it is helping its wireless customers give to the Red Cross for relief in Japan. Those wireles susers can text "redcross" to 90999 to give $10 to help victims in the area.
