SpareFoot Launches Auction Site

Austin-based SpareFoot, the online marketplace for self storage facilities, said Tuesday that it has launched an online database of storage auctions, those sales made popular by such shows as Auction Hunters and Storage Wars.. Sparefoot said its new Sparefoot Auction site will help users find upcoming storage auctions near them, based on city or zip code. The firm said it decided to expand into the area after finding other sites were not very comprehensive or were not very user friendly. Sparefoot is extracting the auction data from public notices of auctions, which occur when storage unit renters fall behind on rent or abandon their units. Sparefoot is venture backed by Silverton Partners, FLOODGATE, and Capital Factory.
