RadioShack: We're Now The Largest Recycler Of Rechargeable Batteries

Fort Worth-based RadioShack Corp., the retail electronics chain, reported today that it is the now largest retailer recycling rechargeable batteries. The chain said that it has collected 5 million pounds of rechargeable batteries so far through its stores, via its partnership with Call2Recycle, a rechargeable battery collection program operator--more than any other retail chain. The firm said it started offering its service in 1994. Call2Recycle said it has so far diverted more than 60 million pounds of rechargeable batteires from local landfills.
