ADAPTIX Acquired For $160M
Carrollton-based ADAPTIX, a holder of 4G wireless patents, has been acquired by fellow patent licensing firm Acacia Research, in a deal worth $160M. Acacia Research said today that one of its subsidiaries acquired ADAPTIX, to broaden the firm's patent licensing activities into the 4G wireless area. ADAPTIX has 230 issued and pending patents in the 4G wireless area, including patents covering OFDMA and MIMO. The firm had previously been in the products business, but switched to IP licensing in 2008 and sold off its products divisions. Acacia is well known for buying up patents and pursuing companies to have them license its patents.
