CopperEgg Dissects Amazon Outage
Austin-based CopperEgg, the provider of cloud analytics and monitoring services, was not immune from the downtime triggered at thousands of websites last week due to a failure at Amazon EC2, Amazon's web service. However, CopperEgg--which says it has survived prior Amazon outages with no issues--reported last week that it had also had some downtime at its service due to the EC2 failure. Now, the company has posted a deep dissection of how its own failure occurred, after Amazon lost one of its clusters due to the severe lightning storms on the East Coast on June 29th. CopperEgg was not alone in suffering from the Amazon failure -- such popular services at Instagram and LinkedIn, along with hundreds of other web sites, had also been affected by the downtime.
