Dell Joins Pecan Street Effort

Round Rock-based computer maker Dell said this morning that it is joining with the Pecan Street the nonprofit, smart grid research effort headquartered at UT Austin, and will provide technology and IT expertise to the group. The research effort at Pecan Street currently is monitoring electricity and gas use at 400 Austin homes, to help develop a database of consumer energy use data. Dell said it joined the effort--providing workstations, network switches, storage, and other infrastructure--as it has begun offering up a Dell Smart Grid Data Management product and similar products for utility companies.
