Pike Powers Lab Opens To Advance Energy Research

A new, research lab in Austin--the Pike Powers Laboratory & Center for Commercialization--opened up Tuesday, as part of a joint effort between The University of Texas and the Pecan Street Project. The new lab is aimed at helping companies to develop, test and validate a wide range of consumer electronics, software and hardware applications. The lab said those applications include wireless, big data management, metrology, building controls, solar photovoltaics, natural gas fuel cell, energy storage, machine-to-machine, vehicle charging and disaggregation technologies. The new center is backed by such companies as Dell, Intel Corporation, Schneider Electric and National Instruments. The lab is housed in a brand new, $1.5 million building, which is stocked with over $600,000 in testing equipment.
