Outbox Shuts Down Mail Digitization Service
Austin-based Outbox, which had launched last year to automatically sort and digitize your postal mail and deliver it to your iPhone or iPad, said Tuesday that it is shutting down its brand, and will be re-focusing its team on a totally new product. The company--which had been looking to shut down junk mail delivery to users--blamed the shutdown after failing to find a "repeatable and scalable" acquisition channel for its customers, and because it couldn't get the density of users it needed to cover costs of the service. The company had initially hoped to redirect people's mail to a central facility, but due to a disagreement with the U.S. Postal service, ended up having to physically collect and digital postal mail directly from a user's mailbox. The company did not say what its new product will be focused upon.
