Texas Companies Raise $348.7M In Venture Capital In Quarter
Companies in Texas raised $348.7M in venture capital in Q1 of 2014, according to the latest numbers from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association, based on data from Thomson Reuters. According to the MoneyTree report, those totals are below Q1 of last year, when $546.4M was invested in Texas, and about the same level as Q4 of 2013, when $344.63M was invested in the state. There were a total of 41 investment deals tallied by the investment report.
Nationally, venture capitalists invested $9.5 billion in 951 deals in the first quarter, which was up 12 percent in terms of dollars but down 14 percent in terms of deals compared to fourth quarter of 2013. Those investment levels are the highest since Q2 of 2001. The largest sector of investment nationally was software, which garnered $4.0 billion in investments.
