Texas Gets $361.4M In Venture Investments In Q1
PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association reported over the weekend that venture capital totals in Texas totaled $361.4M, over 37 deals, as overall venture capital investments in the U.S. slipped to $7.1B for the quarter. According to the report, which was based on data from Thomson Financial, quarterly venture capital activity was down 8.5 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 for the nation, when $7.8B was invested in the nation. However, venture activity in Texas was up from the comparable first quarter of 2007, when there was $277.6M in venture capital deals tallied by PwC and the NVCA. Quarter to quarter, venture deals were down slightly from Q4, when there was $426.6M invested in Texas. Separately, Dow Jones VentureSource also released their quarterly venture capital numbers, and reported $6.84B in deals; Dow Jones found that Texas investments gained 27% over Q1 of 2007, with their total investments at $325M in 24 deals.
