Overnight Expanding Last Minute Room Booking To Austin, Gets $2.5M
Overnight, a new startup which offers up last minute, room booking for spontaneous travelers--think of a cross between Airbnb and Uber--said today that it is expanding to Austin, after raising $2.5M in a seed funding round. The startup offers up an app which lets independent hosts respond to last minute room requests from users for stays the same day. The funding came from Accomplice and CrossCut Ventures, and also included Paul Bricault (Greycroft/Amplify) and Elliott Bisnow (Summit Action Fund). Overnight is based in Los Angeles, where it has been available in beta--the company said it is launching in Austin ahead of SXSW. The company is aiming the service at Millennials and other spontaneous travelers, who don't want to be tied to a calendar and are just looking for a place to sleep--but don't care about hotel amenities and don't want to pay hotel prices--according to its CEO, Asher Hunt.
