Alpheus Communications Rolls Out New, Managed Dark Fiber Service
Houston-based Alpheus Communications is expanding into the area of managed dark fiber services, saying Tuesday that it will now design, manage, and monitor dark fiber for enterprise businesses. Alpheus Communications said its new Managed Dark Fiber Service is aimed at high-data utilization businesses that need to connect their headquarters with other large operating locations, including their data center facilities. Pricing on the new service was not announced. Alpheus said the new service is targeted at businesses who do not want to enter into long-term IRU (indefeasible right of use) agreements, which are commonly used to reserve dark fiber use for 20 to 30 years, which include large upfront costs and ongoing network maintenance expenses.
