Gemalto Claims Patent Win

Gemalto, a developer of digital security software and technology which has its U.S. operations in Austin, said it has scored a win in a patent challenge to its EMV Payment Card Patents. The firm said that United State Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) denied a challenge to the validity of several claims of U.S. Patent No. 5,944,833. Gemalto said that patent covers EMV chip card security. Gemalto has a patent lawsuit filed against CPI Card Group using that patent. Gemalto says it has 4,300 patent and patent applications. The company is based in Europe, but runs it U.S. operations out of Austin.
