Frontier Communications: Harvey's Coming, Time To Pull Out The Corded Phone
As Hurricane Harvey approaches Texas, local telephone and Internet provider Frontier Communications has issued some advice which might just confuse folks who have grown up in the wireless-service-everywhere-all-the-time age: pull out that traditional corded phone. Frontier Communications issued a bulletin on Thursday urging its customers to pull out traditional corded phones -- which are actually fairly rare to see in a world of cordless phones and cell phones--since they draw power from phone lines, and are not reliant on commercial power. Frontier also told its customers to make sure wireless devices such as cell phones, laptops and tablet devices are all charged in advance of the severe weather, among other preparations. Corded phone have been going the way of the Dodo bird, with the phones now mostly marketed at tech-averse seniors and the hearing impaired.
