Bumble Countersues Match Group
Austin-based female-first dating app developer Bumble has countersued Dallas-based Match Group, the owner of Tinder, alleging theft of trade secrets, fraud, unfair competition, and more, and seeking $400M in damages. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Dallas County, Texas. The move comes in response to a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Tinder earlier this month, which apparently followed the rejection of a takeover offer from Match Group for Bumble. Bumble was created as a direct response to Tinder, to give women more control over dating relationships; Bumble's founder had been at Tinder, but left after a sexual harassment lawsuit at Tinder.
