Lyft Rolls Out Scooters In Austin

Lyft said on Tuesday that it is officially launching its on-demand, scooter rental service in Austin, the first scooter launch for the company in Texas, and the fifth market it's launched its scooter service into this year. Lyft, which is going up against such firms as Lime and Bird in offering up electric scooter rentals nationwide, says it has been looking to reduce the number of vehicle miles traveled by its users, via its new bike and scooter rental services. Lyft says it wants to give its riders a choice between "scooting around" or ridesharing. Lyft, Lime, Bird, Uber, and others have been looking to tap into what they refer to as "last mile" commuting, helping users get between public transit options or for other short hop rides which are too short to merit waiting for a car ride.
