Initiative Yields Results for Freescale, Partner

The joint design initiative between Austin, Texas-based Freescale Semiconductor and STMicroelectronics, suppliers of semiconductors to the automotive industry, has yielded "significant progress" in the areas of automotive IP development, flash technology alignment and new product definition, Freescale reported Thursday. Freewave said that since announcing the initiative last year, the companies have established automotive design centers in Naples, Sao Paulo, New Delhi and Agrate, Italy. The firms have been working on delivery of a common micro-controller architectural platform design for their customers.
