NewsStand Signs Hachette Book Group

Hachette Book Group USA, a publisher of books in print, online, audio and print-on-demand formats, reported Tuesday that it has formed an alliance with Austin, Texas-based NewsStand's LibreDigital unit, a provider of online marketing solutions and services. According to the agreement, the two companies will work together to deliver book content via the Web and other digital platforms. Hachette explained that its new service, called OpenBook, will grant readers online access to its library of titles in a true-to-print format. The deal also includes the use of LibreDigital technology to create online book widgets, which will enable readers to share their favorite book titles on blogs and social-networking Web sites. Hachette Book Group USA's primary U.S. publishing office is in New York City. LibreDigital is a division of NewsStand, a privately held company headquartered in Austin, Texas.
