Texas Instruments, MIT Collaborate On Energy Efficient Chips

Dallas-based Texas Instruments and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) said Monday that researchers at the company and school have unveiled new research which is expected to create chips that are ten times more energy efficient than current technology. According to the researchers, the design could lead to cell phones, implantable medical devices, and sensors that can run far longer when running from a battery. Texas Instruments said that the design used TI's MSP430 microcontroller as part of a design to demonstrate the ultra-low power circuit. The research was funded in part by a grant from DARPA.
