Freescale Announces Linux Processor
Austin-based semiconductor manufacturer Freescale said Monday that it has rolled out a new, dual-core, system-on-a-chip processor focused on the embedded Linux operating system. The firm said its new device, the MPC5123, is part of its mobileGT processor family. The processor is focused on industrial and consumer applications, and is integrated with a Linux OS-based starter kit. Embedded Linux is a special purpose version of the popular Linux operating system which includes real-time operating system functionality required for low level, embedded development. Freescale has tapped Genesi for the Linux OS software.
