Freescale to Collaborate with Chinese Automaker
Embedded computer chip manufacturer Freescale Semiconductor revealed Monday that it has signed a technology development deal with Chinese auto producer Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. As part of the agreement, Freescale said, the two companies will establish a joint automotive lab with the intention of co-developing silicon, software and system-level solutions for use in Chery vehicles. Freescale noted that the two companies have partnered before—Chery's engine management system is based on Freescale's S12XE microcontroller. Freescale added that it and Chery will also explore joint development in automotive application areas, such as body electronics, powertrain technology, hybrid electric vehicles and in-vehicle entertainment electronics. According to Freescale, Chery is the People's Republic's fourth-largest auto manufacturer. Freescale is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
