Freescale in Partnership with Chinese Automaker
Embedded computer chip manufacturer Freescale Inc. revealed Wednesday that it and a Chinese automaker have joined forces with the intention of establishing an automotive electronics research facility in China. According to Freescale, the laboratory's purpose will be to develop silicon-, software- and systems-level solutions that Dongfeng Motor Corp. will apply to its next generation of vehicles for domestic and overseas markets. Freescale noted that body electronics, powertrain control and hybrid/electric power technology are among the applications the two companies intend to research once the lab is up and running. Freescale is a privately held company based in Austin, Texas. Headquartered in the Hubei province capital of Wuhan, Dongfeng is China's second-largest automaker.
