Freescale Aims New Chip At Chinese Market

Austin-based semiconductor developer Freescale Semiconductor said today that it has launched a new series of ARM-based microcontrollers, specifically aimed at the Chinese market. According to Freescale, it has launched its ARM-based Kinetis microcontrollers (MCUs) specifically to meet the needs of Chinese auto manufacturers. Freescale said it expects the chips to be "especially well accepted" in China, due to time-to-market needs and familiarity with ARM architecture in that market. Freescale says it is also provide an extensive automotive reference design library with its chips, which it says can be used to control things like seats, sunroofs, fuel/water pump systems, parking assist, interior lighting, engine control systems, and more.
