UT Dallas, UT Southwestern Gets Award From Venture Firm

Austin-based life sciences venture capital firm Emergent Technologies, said today that the firm has awarded $25,000 in a new "Texas Proof of Concept Award" to researchers at the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas Southwestern, towards commercialization of technology developed by the researchers. According to Emergent Technologies, the award went to Bruce Gnad, Ph.D. of UT Dallas and Jeffrey Cadeddu, M.D. of UT Southwestern for their StoneMag System Kidney Stone Magnetic Retrieval System. Aside from the money, Emergent Technologies said the award will include $25,000 worth of technology commercialization management services that it will provide to the researchers. The technology is being applied to the urology device market for treatment of kidney stones.
