Handango Links Into Android
Irving, Texas-based Handango, which operates an online store focused on smart phones, said this week that it will begin offering paid and free applications for phones based on Google's Android smart phone operating system. According to the firm, it will begin offering the applications when the first Android smartphone launches on October 22nd. Handango said that developers can add Android applications to their developer accounts, and offer those applications for free download, one-time purchase, or on a subscription basis. Handango also said it will run a contest for the best free and best paid Android applications uploaded to its catalog, which will reward $25,000 in advertising to a developer. Google Android is Google's opens source cell phone effort; the first phone from the project is the T-Mobile G1, and is expected to go head to head with Apple's enormously popular iPhone.
