Freescale Rolls Tablet Computer

Austin-based Freescale Semiconductor is looking to spur the tablet PC market today, saying that it has unveiled a new, tablet computer reference design, which it hopes that consumer electronics OEMs will adopt. The firm said its new, 7-inch touch screen enabled tablet design is aimed at the second generation, smartbook market, with a price point of less than $200. The firm said its reference design uses its i.MX515, ARM Cortex processor as well as other products, and run both the Android and Linux operating systems. The firm said end products based on the design could hit the market as soon as this summer. Among the features of the tablet PC are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networking, touch screen keyboard support, Adobe Flash support, as well as a number of widget connecting the device to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and other applications.
